Project update: Brickfield House welcomes first residents
The team at Watson has been bustling with activity throughout 2024, and one of our standout achievements so far this year has been the completion of Brickfield House, our over-55 age-assisted housing development in Ashton-under-Lyne. This month, Brickfield House has now welcomed its first tenants into their new homes, marking a successful culmination of this important project.
Working with Southway Housing Trust and designed by BTP Architects, Brickfield House provides 42 affordable rent homes tailored for residents over 55 years of age.
Development features
The development comprises one-bedroom apartments designed to support older residents in living independently. Each home features thoughtfully designed bathrooms with walk-in showers, ensuring ease of use and safety. The building is equipped with a lift for convenient access to all floors, and ample mobility scooter storage is provided to accommodate residents' needs.
Environmental sustainability is another cornerstone of Brickfield House’s design. The building is highly energy efficient with an enhanced focus on a fabric first approach, significantly reducing its environmental impact leading to lower energy bills for residents in the long term.
There is a communal garden, providing a peaceful outdoor space for residents to enjoy and on-site parking ensuring easy access to the building. The development's location is another key advantage, situated within walking distance of local amenities and boasting excellent public transport links. Residents can easily access both Ashton town centre and Manchester city centre.
Through these carefully considered features, Henrietta Street offers not just housing, but a comprehensive living experience tailored to the needs and desires of its over-55 residents.
The grand opening
To celebrate the first tenants moving in, Deputy Prime Minister RT Hon, Angela Rayner MP, visited Brickfield House to celebrate the first residents moving in. She joined Watson Directors - Mike and Rob Watson - along with other representatives from Tameside Council, Southway Housing Trust, Homes England and Greater Manchester Combined Authority to mark the opening of the development with a ribbon cutting.
Mike and Rob were thrilled to meet the Deputy Prime Minister as she is passionate about supporting local communities and their housing initiatives, which as affordable housing developers they are committed to.
